The SESTO NEOL remote control system for non-traction power lines MV switches is part of SESTO's non-traction automation system. It is designed for remote control of MV switches in overhead MV lines as well as in cable lines within MV cable joints or MV/LV transformer stations.

The remote control cabinets for MV switches are powered by 230V, 50Hz. This voltage is obtained from a single-phase MV/230V transformer or a voltage transformer powered by the MV line. They can also be powered by another source (e.g., the LV network). The cabinet is equipped with a 24V battery with an appropriate charging and monitoring system.
The system includes NEOL object cabinets and local control centers. 


NEOL object cabinets can be used with any MV switch equipped with a 24V DC drive. Communication with any point (control center) for remote control can be established using the following media:

  • GSM network with GPRS technology
  • Radio network at the appropriate frequency
  • Fiber optic network
  • Telecommunication cables

The SESTO NEOL system performs the following functions:

  • Remote control of MV switches (closing and opening).
  • Remote monitoring of the MV switch position.
  • Remote monitoring of the 230V AC/24V DC power system.
  • Remote monitoring of cabinet closures (object and drive cabinets).
  • Communication between the object cabinet and the remote control point (center).
  • Interaction with the switch drive: - closing, - opening,
  • Selection of control mode: - remote, - local (via buttons on the drive), - manual (with a crank) with blocking of the electric drive,
  • Monitoring of the drive cabinet closure,
  • Optionally, local control from the object cabinet of the switch's electric drive in cable joints or transformer stations.
